Diet is an important part of cancer treatment. Cancer patients have special nutritionneeds and issues related to eating. Eating the right kinds of foods before, duringand after treatment can help the patient feel better and stay stronger. The body's use of protein, carbohydrates and fat may be affected, especially by tumors of the stomach or intestines. Such a broad topic! Gastrectomy, pancreatectomy, Whipple, small bowel resection or colectomy etc, will all lead to either motility, malabsorbtion or insulin production issues. Chemotherapy drugs and other medication can have side effects of nausea, diarrhea etc. Dietary modifications such as an increase in lean protein and decrease in fat intake can be recommended. Cholestyramine, pancrelipase, codeine and anti-nausea drugs can help depending on the symptoms.
