Can you refuse treatment for lung or stomach cancer?
It runs in my family. None of my uncles lived past 50 on my mothers side. IMO, the treatment is worse than the disease. Their last days were horrible.

I'm so sorry..that really sucks. You are an adult..I don't see why you can't refuse treatment, just as people can sign a DNR and it must be respected. I really hope this passes you over, I guess I would eat a really healthy diet with lots of cancer fighting foods like broccoli and stay in good shape and live life to its fullest. None of us really know when our last day will be, but I don't think that I would want to know how I was going to go. Sorry..I will say a prayer for you.

Of course you can refuse treatment, it is easy to say when you are cancer free. You will probably change your mind if you get diagnosed. You will still experience the horrible last days, it will just happen sooner.

You can refuse treatment, but one thing you should consider is that treatments for various cancers are continually changing . . so you cannot intelligently base your decision for no treatment on what happened to any of your uncles or any other relative. Cancer is an individualized disease and so is treatment. You have no way of knowing until you have your own treatment exactly what your response will be. Cancer is complicated by the fact that there are over 200 different types and just as many subtypes. Further complicating the issue is stage of disease . . an early stage one disease is far, far easier to treat than advanced late stage metastatic cancer . . type of disease . . a basal cell carcinoma can be removed and that is all the treatment needed while an advanced aggressive cancer needs many months and multi-modality approach . . complicating it even further is the grade of disease . . some cancers are slow growing and not aggressive at all and patients can outlive the cancer . . while some cancers are fast and aggressive and kill within months. And even more complicating . . all treatment and types of cancer depend on the age of the patient and the patients overall health. So you may want to rethink any hasty decisions and gather enough information to make an informed decision.

Of course you can, but it makes no sense. Even if they only died yesterday, cancer treatments advance every day... (BTW, side-effects of Chemo or radiation are rarely as nasty as the "side-effects" of cancer, silly goose!)
