Cancer Treatment Center in Philly, PA?
I am refering to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia PA. Has anyone been there or know someone who has? If so, what did you think of it? Would you recomend it? Father in law has stage 3 lung cancer, metastised to liver, now the liver is growing, I don't feel very confident in the care he is currantly getting in our small town. In three months time liver has grown from 2cm to 6cm, his doctor is now giving him more chemo, but has given him 3 months to live. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry i haven't, but the one in Tulsa is excellent and I would think that they are ran the same. But you are right in questioning, b/c you never know. I research "natural" type of cures and aides and have heard great things about some information contained at the sites below, either click on them or copy/paste: Not as well known, but i have heard a lot lately about this one. And I believe this is the same author that researched back pain and wrote a lot on it, which I followed with success: http://247books.cancer1.hop.clickbank.net/ Free Report here: http://247books.beatcancer.hop.clickbank.net/ Great info: http://247books.staywell.hop.clickbank.net/ Good luck and I wish I could help you out more, and our prayers are with you and your family.

If you want to try a different Dr then you might check out Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. They have a major treatment program just for lung cancer. http://www.fccc.edu/cancer/types/lung/index.html I don't know about the CTofA hospital in Philadelphia but some of their other facilities are rather small but with huge advertising budgets. You might also look into the various clinical trials from the NIH. http://www.nci.nih.gov/clinicaltrials Good luck to your father.

I have not heard anything about these facilities other than the heavy advertising they do on television. You should check to see if they are accredited or approved as a cancer center. Most cancer centers should have accredition or standards program in place. How to locate Approved Cancer Programs http://web.facs.org/cpm/default.htm Accredited National Cancer Center Facilities by name or state: http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-names.html There is also a Joint Commission that investigates patient safety and quality standards for each facility. Quality Check http://www.qualitycheck.org/consumer/searchQCR.aspx Good luck. Added: I asked a young lady who has the same type of rare sarcoma that my son has about the Cancer Treatment Center and she said that they would not accept her as a patient because of the rareness of her disease. She does not recommend them.

As mentioned, you might want to check out Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. They are a non-profit educational facility and one the NCIs Comprehensive Cancer Centers. You may be able to enroll in cutting edge clinical trials there. The same applies for Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Home of OncoLink: http://www.penncancer.org http://www.oncolink.com There are only 39 cancer centers designated Comprehensive Cancer Center by NCI. Cancer Treatment Centers are commercial for-profit facilities. They use both conventional and alternative treatments. They are quite expensive and, I do not believe they run clinical trials. There is nothing wrong with CCTA but, if I had a cancer with poor prognosis, I'd go to a comprehensive cancer center like Fox Chase or Abramson not CCTA. One more NCI-designated cancer center in Philadelphia I forgot to mention: Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University. http://www.kimmelcancercenter.org
