probably true .. but if I had that I think I would rather just sleep ( at least no pain)

Morphine does make you sleepy especially in the higher IV doses. There are many other pain killers they can use but all of the powerful ones tend to make a person drowsy/dreamy.

Morphine is for extreme pain.If you had terminal cancer, you would welcome morphine.Would you want this person to be anguishing in pain?

What you need to do is contact hospice and have them work with the person and their family. They will also work with the doctor on the patient̢۪s medications and pain control and adjust it so that the patient does not suffer and can spend as much time as possible awake and doing the things they want. This is what they specialize in and will work with the patient and the family during this difficult process. They are very caring people who are very good at what they do.

The main side effects of the opiate drugs (which include morphine) include drowsiness, constipation and slow respiration. Since morphine is used for severe pain, it is preferable to be drowsy to being in agony. An alternative might be to use the Fentanyl patch and to remove the patch when expecting visitors (Fentanyl has a shorter duration of action than morphine)
