You would have to earn huge money but I think you have a big heart & a great desire to do amazing things. If it's your will, it will happen. Good Luck & if it's in the USA I would be happy to volunteer in some way!

This is an admirable desire. I'd suggest, however, that you not look at doing this with your own money. For one thing, it would be many years before you could amass the money to even begin this project. For another, how would it keep going after you die? If you pursue this dream, and it's a wonderful dream, I suggest you take a look at how Danny Thomas set up St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Their Web site is http://www.stjude.org/. It's a wonderful place. I was there with our niece. Nobody ever pays for care there -- or transportation to get there or hotels for parents. Not only that, but their research has found effective treatments and even cures for some types of cancer.

You are going to need a hell of a lot of sponsership to do this. My mom died of cancer back in march of this year and her medical bills were through the roof for the surgery and the chemotherapy. Its a good idea in practice, but unless you can get some big name companies or massive backing from philanthropy, I don't see your dream becoming a reality.

Of course you're thinking right! I work in the insurance department of an oncologist's office, and I know how much the chemo drugs are. I've seen patients who are still undergoing treatment meet their insurance's lifetime max. Some are unable to transitiion into another policy. The best place to start would be with contacting St. Jude's since they are non-profit. See how they got started. Best of luck to you and your future endeavors.

This is a wonderful idea! You are going to have to find investors to get it built, then you are going to have to find the money to pay for support staff and find doctors willing to work at a reduced fee. Does Dr. "Patch" Adams have a website? You might google him to see if he can help. If he is even still around. Good Luck!

There already is a hospital like this - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It is funded by donor dollars and medical grants. Patients and their families never pay a cent for medical treatment if their insurance doesn't cover it and if their insurance does cover it, they never see a bill. Housing, travel and transportation are all provided for the patient and one family member (travel-wise) and patient and 3 family members (all others). Danny Thomas and ALSAC (American-Lebanese-Syrian Associated Charities) opened the hospital - they started looking for funding in the late 50s and it opened in 62. If you google ALSAC or Danny Thomas / St. Jude you should get some ideas. Good luck! :) St. Jude is for children up to 18 years of age - unless they are on an active protocol or on a protocol for a rare form of cancer are they seen over 18 - after 18 they go to a regular oncologist - your idea would serve them well after they are done at sjcrh.

There is nothing wrong with what you want to do - however, it is going to be very expensive. My cancer treatment was over $100,000 - not to mention follow up surgeries that were in the $300,000 range. I applaud your efforts, if you have the money, go for it.

IN CANADA WE ARE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF AND FORTUNATELY DON'T PAY FOR THE CAER THAT WE NEED....I WILL HOPE AND PRAY THAT YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT AS I REALLY AM FLOORED THAT PATIENTS IN THE STATES HAVE TO PAY FOR THEIR TREATMENT.
