According to the federal Women's Health Initiative study in 2002, it was found that more breast cancers & heart problems occurred among women taking estrogen-progestin pills prescribed for HRT.

I have taken bio-identical progesterone. It has been a living hell. I took it for 10 weeks. That was one year ago, and I am still recovering. see what others have written. www.askapatient.com

Palliative care is when you are terminal, and the only treatment you receive are things like pain meds and narcotics to help you stay comfortable. As far as I know, many breast cancer patients receive hormone therapy without being terminal or in palliative care.

I think you are confusing hormone replacement therapy and hormone therapy. Women who have had breast cancer are unlikely to take HRT because it is a recognised breast cancer risk - it causes a small increase in risk while it is being taken; however, the risk gradually returns to normal after you stop taking it. Hormone therapy is often offered to women whose breast tumour is oestrogen sensitive. No, it's not palliative; as Midnight points out palliative care is what is given when cancer is terminal. I have been taking Arimidex, an anti-oestrogen hormone therapy, since shortly after my breast cancer diagnosis. I reach the end of the five years it is usually prescribed for next month and I'm fit and well with no sign of cancer at my last check-up
