Everyone's cancer is different. The doctor would be able to answer this question. Cancer in these times, longevity is much more increase than even 5 to 10 years ago. I opt for the cup 1/2 full.

Hello! Really the only person that could awnser this question wholeheartedly, you can't hear him speaking to you! I think in my expeience as a NURSE, you should never put a time-line on anyone. If this person, is going to have Chemo & radation, then theres always a possiblity of completely ridding the cancer. There are several types of lung cancer, and alot determines on what kind this is, and how healthy this person is otherwise. If its encapsulated, theres a chance of surgery to remove it, and futher testing of lypth nodes, will tell where or not the cancer has spread. But I think if a physician was asked he would say probably without treatment, 3 months to one year, again depending on which type of lung cancer it is. Has this person smoked or been exposed to asbestos? How old they are, also plays a huge roll. Good luck & Don't give up

I can't answer you precisely, but I can get close. My grandfather was diagnosed with stage iv (4) squamous cell lung carcinoma, from probably close to fifty years of smoking. He was diagnosed in April 2002 and didn't pass away until October 2007. This is in someone that was assumed terminal from the beginning. He received chemotherapy and radiation and his health was really still pretty good until the spring of 2007. After that he just started feeling sicker but was still OK until about three or four weeks before he died. Most people have a strong will to live, even in the face of cancer and fight. But every person is different. We were told we were very lucky to have so much time with him after his diagnosis, since a lot of people don't survive that much chemotherapy. ETA: I forgot to include that when he was diagnosed we were told that he's have maybe a year without treatment, and maybe two or three with it. No one can tell, not even the experts.

That is question that has no exact answer. Stage III lung cancer actually is a bit of a fork in the road in treatment for those with non-small cell lung cancer (adenocarcimona, squamous cell carcinoma etc...). A patient with stage IIIa disease is still technically a surgical candidate and may be operated upon and therefore have a small chance of cure. A patient with stage IIIb NSCLC on the other hand is not a surgical candidate and is relinquished to medical care meaning radiation and chemotherapy. These people do worse than those in the IIIa group. All patients with small cell lung cancer are precluded from surgery and are relinquished to medical care. To be exact, medical literature currently indicates that 10-40% of people with stage IIIa NSCLC will be alive at 5 years, depending on degree of lymph node involvement. A person with stage IIIb NSCLC has a 5 year rate of survival at or just less than 5%. There are virtually no survivors at 5 years from small cell lung cancer, rates are less than 5%. I hope that helps.

nobody can tell how long a person lives..actually, i know a person who's been diagnosed with a different cancer..prostate to be exact..and he is only given 3 months to live..he tried alternative medicines and after a year, he is still alive.. its really up to a person on how he's going to live his life..there are other things to help you with your condition..
