Hopefully, some positive advancements will have been made. However, a lot depends on funding for research. Rearchers depending on government funding often have to pick and choose which projects to pursue due to budget contraints and projects that are privately funded depend heavily on donations. In a perfect world, there would be an unlimited supply of funds available to pursue research in all promising developments.
