Could scientists be lying about Vitamin B17 not being the cure for cancer?
Not many people realize that Vitamin B17 is in a variety of citrus fruits that are in grocery stores now. A group of people called the Hunzas eat apricot seeds and never get cancer. They also live up to be 100 years old or older. Why is it that America has the most cancer cases? I advise people to research this and look at both sides of the argument on this form of nutritional cancer treatment.

Nope. Any scientist would become an instant billionaire if he discovered the cure for cancer, so it's not even remotely plausible that that could be kept secret. Lots of people live long lives and don't get cancer without eating Hunza seeds. If B17 isn't sold as a cancer cure, it's because they either haven't found out whether it cures cancer, or they have already tried it and it doesn't work.

The compound generally called B17 is not a vitamin, it's a compound called amygdalin, related to the semisynthetic derivative Laetrile. It has no known value, is highly toxic due to its tendency to release cyanide ions under physiological conditions. Calling it a vitamin was an attempt to sneak it past regulatory agencies in a variety of countries and sell it as a supplement. It is also one of the most thoroughly debunked cancer cure scams in the history of medicine. Due to its relatively high toxicity, the fact that this toxicity is preferentially kills non-cancerous cells due to targeting the respiratory chain. It has failed all antineoplastic tests in vitro, in animal studies, and in the few studies that have been done in humans.

Are you joking? Of course they are not lying. Why would they? Do you have any valid evidence that the Hunzas average life expectancy is 100+, and that they never get cancer? If you are going to make serious health claims, you need to be able to back up what you say. There is a death toll associated with those who forego or delay conventional treatments for unproven aternative treatments. Can you provide quality, peer reviewed, independent, randomized, double blinded, clinical studies that confirms B17 (not really a vitamin, BTW) cures cancer? From Wiki: "Though it is sometimes sold as "Vitamin B17", it is not a vitamin. Amygdalin/laetrile was claimed to be a vitamin by Ernst Krebs, Jr in the hope that if classified as a nutritional supplement it would escape the federal legislation regarding the marketing of drugs. He could also capitalise on the public fad for vitamins at that time" So who is lying here? If you are going to claim that scientist are somehow lying and part of a major international conspiracy, you are going to have to include international governments in that conspiracy as well. From Wiki: "The US Food and Drug Administration continues to seek jail sentences for vendors selling laetrile for cancer treatment, calling it a "highly toxic product that has not shown any effect on treating cancer." "A 2006 Cochrane review of the evidence concluded "The claim that Laetrile has beneficial effects for cancer patients is not supported by data from controlled clinical trials. This systematic review has clearly identified the need for randomised or controlled clinical trials assessing the effectiveness of Laetrile or amygdalin for cancer treatment." It has not been approved for this use by the United States' Food and Drug Administration. The U.S. government's National Institutes of Health evaluated the evidence, including case reports and a clinical trial, and concluded that they showed little effect. A 1982 trial of 178 patients found that tumor size had increased in all patients. Minimal side effects were seen except in two patients who consumed bitter almonds and suffered from cyanide poisoning." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B17#cite_note-Chang-24 Two studies that show B17 (Amygdalin/Laetrile) has no effect on cancer: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/683212 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7033783 There is no two sides and there is no argument. And given it's toxicity, its hardly nutritional. You should also keep in mind that Big Vitamin is a billion dollar industry too.

The minute anyone mentions the bloody Hunzas, your red light should go on. They didn't even have birth cerificates in Hunzaland, it's BS. What it usually turns out to be is MLM networking. Don't be conned, there is no magic bullet for a cancer cure, just plain old getting back to healthy basics. The website below has some good information, they say fearmongering by the media is a major part of the problem.

I've only ever seen anecdotal evidence for this and if I had cancer wouldn't bother. It, like any other nutritional therapy, is not a cure all for cancer but can have some effect in certain types of cancer. The Hunzas had a lot of other dietary and lifestyle factors that affected their low cancer rate, so an argument for B17 being the cause is insufficient.
