Has anyone been to cancer treatment centers of america, how was it?
My mom was diagnosed with kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma) about 3 weeks ago, now we are just finding out she is in stage 4 where it has spread to several organs. My mom was hospitalized last weekend due to low blood pressure because she was given morphine for pain. Doctors told us while she was in the hospital she would only have up to a month to live. Now she is home, and doing fine, she's got more energy and doing things for herself. I ran into a friend of mine whose mother goes to cancer treatment centers and said she has had wonderful results with them. I just want to hear from others who have been there.

I honestly think you should get alternative treatment, only 10% of the people survive the chemo therapy and the radiation treatment http://www.knowledgeofhealth.com/report.asp?story=About%20the%20latest%20cancer%20cure&catagory=Resveratrol,%20Cancer,%20Anti-Aging,%20Resveratrol,

It does sound alternative, but they also seem to use conventional treatments (I saw a commercial where someone underwent amputation there).I think conventional and alternative treatments together can be good (depends upon the treatments). More people survive who are INFORMED and take charge of what treatments that they want and don't want... I don't know, but I would like to comment on the link about chemo and alternatives...yes chemo and pills like tamoxiphen and others DO have a rate of only one or two more people out of a hundred will survive over those who don't do it. But the DCA treatment mentioned in the link can cause permanent peripheral nerve damage.

When my cousin investigated the possibility of receiving treatment there, he was told that the cost would be $250,000. If money is not a concern, you may want to check them out yourself. My HMO provides my cancer treatments. I'm so pleased with them that I've never even considered going anywhere else.

The biggest issue with CTCA is the cost of their treatment. They are a private facility and expect to be paid for services. Some insurance companies consider them out of network and will only pay a small amount. So, if money is not an issue they are probably fine. CTCA Financial Questions http://www.cancercenter.com/patient-services/financial-questions.cfm#respon The only other criticism I've heard is that most of their treatment can be given in a local hospital at half the cost. Those were comments from people who were not satisfied with the facilities and thought being at a local hospital was better. Totally up to you. I think it is going to be hard to find people who are objective. We didn't look at CTCA, nor did we choose to go to a large cancer facility. We chose to stay local and close to family and friends. Our pediatric oncologist though does consult with other doctors throughout the country at our request. Good luck, whatever you decide. :-)

First of all i'm so sorry to hear about your mother and her diagnosis. my boyfriend also has renal cell carcinoma and I know that it is a very bad cancer and can be very tough on the patient. My bf went to the cancer treatment center in philly and said that it is a more homeopathic approach to treatment, he toured their facilities and decided on not going. he does however take a drug called sutent which they use for renal cell and they also use nexovar. They are both pretty strong drugs, but supposedly have good results after scans. Here are some links for kidney cancer and maybe if she went to a group meeting or called them they could give her more info on what patients with renal cell thought about it. good luck to you and your mom! http://www.kidneycancerassociation.org/ http://www.kidneycancerhelp.org/ http://www.kcalist.org/ http://www.kidneycancerjournal.com/ Parcels (DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.) and postal letters: 1234 Sherman Avenue Suite 203 Evanston, IL 60202 Tel. +1 847 332 1051 Toll-free +1 800 850 9132 District of Columbia: +1 202 595 9411 San Francisco: +1 650 351 1075 Fax +1 847 332 2978
