Do vegans get cancer treatment?
This may sound dumb. But I ask because it's tested on rats and other rodents. So would they get it still? Or no?

Vegans use products all the time that use or even kill animals. I'm sure all vegans would go to the doctor or hospital if they were sick. Even a vegans diet kills animals and contributes to deforestation and also pollution.

yes it is about 90-95 % true.

I would, but that's just me. I like living.

You can save more animals alive than you can dead.

I think so, yes. Sir Paul McCartney didn't seem to give the animals a second thought when his first wife, Linda, developed cancer. They used all the treatments available to keep her alive. Yet today he's out pimping for "the animals". Mary Beth Sweetland, a VP at PETA, is an insulin dependent diabetic. Do you think she hesitates to give herself that shot that keeps her alive every day just because it comes from a pig? No. When it gets down to the nitty gritty, I'd guess 99.5% of vegans will opt for the animal tested/derived drugs to improve their health.

I wouldn't and I would hope most vegans also wouldn't. If I got cancer I would either figure out an animal free/ non animal tested treatment or just live out the rest of my life naturally or go out with a bang. Daisy: again showing your complete ignorance, Paul McCartney and his wife are/were vegetarians NOT vegans. Plus even if they were one persyn doing something doesn't mean everyone else does that same thing. At lo_mcg: I don't think you understood my meaning of going out with a bang. I wasn't saying cancer is a good thing or anything like that going out with a bang meant a totally different thing entirely separate from the effects of cancer. I do understand and agree with your point about purism but putting your life way ahead of the animals is a silly notion. Yes seeking certain treatments is fine but going at as if you were more important is not. I have made decisions because I have been in life threatening situations and will be in them for probably the rest of my life. I don't make these decisions as a joke or on a whim but they are careful well thought out decisions that come from experiences that you probably haven't had because we are all different and experience things differently. I am not striking poses but being serious. I don't see myself as better than animals and see the humyn problem very differently than most. I enjoy life yes but if it came down to it I would seek alt. non animal treatments or end my life in a manner I see fit. I do understand that is a hard position to take and not easy but I don't want too extend my life a little by killing and torturing a lot of animals through useless research. If my death was to be hideous and painful I would make it hideous and painful for those who abuse animals as well. My mind works differently than yours and that is cool, I totally respect that you chose your path but it just isn't for me, however I wouldn't attack someone for choosing it unless it was in malicious intent which clearly you weren't doing.

I'm vegan, I've had cancer and I took every recommended treatment. The word 'vegan' is not synonymous with the word 'martyr'. The point of veganism is to minimise your personal contribution to animal suffering as far as is - in the words of the man who invented the word vegan - reasonable and practical. Refusing life-saving medical treatment is neither reasonable nor practical. ALL medications and all medical procedures have been tested on animals - there are no non animal-tested, vegan alternatives; and most drugs contain animal by-products. Anyone naive enough to say 'I wouldn't' is in the fortunate position of never having had a life-threatening illness or injury. Saying 'I wouldn't' means that you intend, if you do get cancer, to die without any pain relief - trust me, Freeyourself, that hideous death is NOT 'going out with a bang'. Saying 'I wouldn't' also means that should you be involved in an accident and break bones, you would refuse to have them reset - that procedure was perfected on animals - and of course you would be refusing anaesthesia and pain relief anyway. Until you have been faced with a life-threatening illness and the possibility of a hideous and painful death, you have no idea what decisions you would make, trust me on that one. You can't live in a bubble of vegan purity, and being vegan isn't about striking poses and making wild claims about what you would and wouldn't do in situations you can't even imagine being in. Yes, vegans with cancer get cancer treatment; I did, and through cancer support networks and and internet forums I've met 6 other vegans with cancer (and scores of vegetarians); all took the recommended treatment
